Following the messages in August http://ecie.org/pipermail/radix/2008-August/000343.html that Mickey Glantz http://www.ccb.ucar.edu had been fired from NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research) in Boulder, Colorado, USA, I am happy to report good news. Under a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation supported by the Clinton Global Initiative, Mickey and his Center will move to the University of Colorado in Boulder.
Details from the New York Times and the Boulder Daily Camera are at:

This result emerged directly from everyone who provided support, with an especial thanks to Ben Wisner, Roger A. Pielke Jr., Andy Revkin, and the Hazards Center at the University of Colorado in Boulder. The emails, phone calls, and publicity from everyone made an immense difference, were noticed at high levels, and demonstrated how valuable Mickey and his Center are. Despite the almost complete silence from NCAR colleagues, apart from a few unconstructive and factually inaccurate comments made publicly, we can at least celebrate with those who had the respect and interest to work energetically and constructively to solve the challenge, to provide the needed support, and to continue the good work. The words "thank you" are inadequate to express what you are owed!
We look forward to a long future for Mickey, his team, and his work--on which we can all continue to build. With deepest gratitude again to those who took the time to be heard and to make a difference. You will reap the rewards, as will the world.
Ilan
