Please find below download link of synthesis
report of the e-discussion on Can disasters help to improve a
country's economy?, which was posted on the Asia Pacific Mountain
Network (APMN)/Mountain Forum (MF) discussion list [mf-asiapacific] in
reference to an article by Drake Bennett, appeared on the Boston Globe
website on 6 July 2008 with the heading 'How disasters help: Natural
disasters can give a boost to the countries where they occur - and
sometimes, the more the better'. A total of 32 contributions were
received from APMN/MF members from 7 to 18 July 2008 sharing valuable
information and ideas. Contributions came from a wide range of
professionals from research institutions, academia, development and
rehabilitation organisations, NGOs, and civil society.

report was prepared with the help of Ms. Mandira Shrestha (Water
