Thanks, Ilan, for making this available and reminding us. Among those of use involved in the writing of that occasional paper, Ken Westgate, Phil O'Keefe, and I am still involved in development, environment, energy, climate, and, above all, disaster risk reduction issues. Of course, James Lewis is also still very active. I am not sure what Alex Baird is doing and would like to know.
Clearly the IDEAS have been around for a long time, in fact pre-dating the Bradford work. My question is two fold: how the ideas are translated into action and, given sustainable actions, then, secondly, how these ideas get institutionalized.
I am afraid there has not been as much progress in these areas as we would have liked. Or am I too pessimistic?
Cheers, BEN

>Just over 30 years ago, the University of Bradford in the UK hosted a Disaster Research Unit which published a series of "Occasional Papers". With thanks to James Lewis http://datum.gn.apc.org , JC Gaillard http://jc.gaillard.monsite.orange.fr , and inter-library loan, all these Occasional Papers are now available electronically at http://www.ilankelman.org/bdru.html Thank you also to James Lewis and Ken Westgate for providing their memories of the Unit--and to all those who were involved in the unit, producing some excellent material that is still pertinent today.
